If we are to be successful in competing with other counties, regions and states for new businesses and industry, we must invest in our transportation infrastructure. The Kent State University Airport and Portage County Regional Airport have already achieved a boost in economic activity by employing 220 and enhancing commerce for all local businesses.
Competition for new business location and relocation is intense. With the global economy, Portage County has been greatly affected by industry and manufacturing moving out of state or over seas. Our economic future will depend greatly on our ability to attract new industry. The Portage County Airport location boasts access to the Ohio turnpike as well as rail service. Without question, we should take full advantage of this tremendous asset and invest in the runway expansion.
